Luxury Linen NZ - Cost Vs Value

Looking at your bed linen options can be a big undertaking.  With so much on offer,  what you get for your money can be confusing. At the top end of the price scale is the luxury bed linen used in high-end lodges and historically associated with royalty and the financial elite. Then you find the cotton blend prints found on the sale rack in chain stores. What really separates a $49.99 set from luxurious bed linen costing $500 - $1000?

The manufacturing process is one of the key differences. Luxury bed linen is typically made from the flax plant.  The stalks are threshed and run through several processes before being spun into yarn.  This is then woven into fabric. It’s a unique feel and hypoallergenic filtering properties also make it more desirable. It’s also considered a much more sustainable choice due to its durability, natural origin, and biodegradability.

Commercial cotton - and cotton synthetic blends - can be much more cheaply produced in large runs and as a result much more available in a range of quality and prices. While higher quality Egyptian cotton sheets can be durable and extremely comfortable as well, their price point can climb depending on their thread count and origin.

For your home, bed linen luxury is obviously a personal choice. If a really good night's sleep is crucial to your well being, an investment in the most comfortable mattress and luxury bedding is something that will yield long term benefits night after night. If not, there are much more economical choices.

Sleep on it. You do get what you pay for.

Sleep that knits up the ravelled sleave of care
The death of each day’s life, sore labour’s bath
Balm of hurt minds, great nature’s second course,
Chief nourisher in life’s feast.

~ William Shakespeare, Macbeth
